<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thanks for joining the chit chat on how my sister-in-law's shower was created! Hope it's helpful in your next party journey! I like to keep things as cute and simple as possible. This post is going to go over the shower decor and games. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It works best and most cost effective to try and decorate with the food, game supplies, and gifts as much as possible! Here is what we did! First off, we were lucky that my sister-in-law has a very talented florist as a friend. She sent over a stunning arrangement that we used as a focal point for the dessert table! We also had the large alligator cupcake arrangement that you can look at from Monday's post.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZum_HOKtDUuCnx2X6uut5ZL31RzYFRCTDyEzg-7EGPwWheVngV2ucKQEVwKIAnP5jruJmLbWc3oPGPtr_UOi1af1mQC2EfTnAZOpNo0E3FfAeWE18w3qVbX9gN1kYzee448P9rez3SBdq/s1600/T+flowers+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZum_HOKtDUuCnx2X6uut5ZL31RzYFRCTDyEzg-7EGPwWheVngV2ucKQEVwKIAnP5jruJmLbWc3oPGPtr_UOi1af1mQC2EfTnAZOpNo0E3FfAeWE18w3qVbX9gN1kYzee448P9rez3SBdq/s320/T+flowers+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The only other flowers I picked up were two bundles of daffodils, which are in season right now in Portland and very inexpensive. I put the daffodils on the entry table with our first game supplies. This game we played throughout the shower. Each person took a necklace (I tied pieces of ribbon into necklaces and put clothespins on them) and was told that they could not say 3 words. If they were caught saying any of those words, they had to give that person one of their clothes pins. The person with the most clothespins at the end, won. Very fun and easy game. I wrote the words that the ladies could not say on the chalkboard and hung the necklaces on some cute hanger rods my mom had! (All this in the entry).</span><br />

I had a small stake that I attached to it and stuck it in the yard. There were only a couple small adjustments we had to make...I had to wrap it like a present since it was raining...and the balloon got so wet/cold that it wouldn't float, so we had to put it under the porch!! You may have seen lots of fun cupcake designs for kid parties and we were able to find one of an alligator...</span><br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfUte8aRQSZG8Yy6pLx_dSTXBIRAItEIyGBqvUE3hZ4mFO1EfFzxLn4OSrp71Zy6YmOco_oBTrHbxPuaQ0LNxLGDrrRoyi9TzcKg3FIL_anLQOiB5qZubp3pv_m-Sw8tUZpqa4iIO7-oE/s1600/alligator.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfUte8aRQSZG8Yy6pLx_dSTXBIRAItEIyGBqvUE3hZ4mFO1EfFzxLn4OSrp71Zy6YmOco_oBTrHbxPuaQ0LNxLGDrrRoyi9TzcKg3FIL_anLQOiB5qZubp3pv_m-Sw8tUZpqa4iIO7-oE/s320/alligator.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's how we created it:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">(we cheated and used) 1 chocolate cake mix (make as directed)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 cans vanilla/white frosting</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Green food coloring</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Nabisco 100 calorie chocolate cookie wafers</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 large marshmallows</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 Junior Mints</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yellow & Brown Jelly Beans (or you could use banana runts)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Directions: Cook 22 cupcakes (as directed on the box) and let cool. Mix the 2 cans of frosting together with food coloring to desired color. We filled Ziploc bags with frosting since we didn't have cake decorating tools. Just cut a small hole in one corner to squeeze the frosting out of. Then make small dots starting from the outside of the cupcake and going around until the entire cupcake is filled in. Follow the cupcake layout in the picture above for arranging them. Next we pushed the chocolate cookies into the cupcakes, then put the fingernails and nose on (jelly beans). I put the two marshmallows side by side, as the eyes, and carefully squeezed frosting over the sides, but not the end. I used a knife to smooth out the frosting. Last, we squeezed a tiny bit of frosting on the Junior Mints and placed them on the ends of the marshmallows as the eyes! Pretty simple, and took us about 30mins to do the decorating once the cupcakes were baked.</span><br />

We spent the entire day outside trying to get it ready for all the spring things we need to do!! Jeff is making me an adorable chicken coop. I can't wait to have my first coop of chickens!! Our neighbor said she could hatch out chicks for us which is super exciting!! <br />
<br />

We are getting everything organized! It will be an ongoing project, but my goal is to walk you through each room and give you links and information to all the specifications we chose. We are so happy with how the design of everything turned out! First post will go up this next week!Bethanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12723884259655098824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3765155728947694619.post-73920833064336391402013-01-12T20:52:00.001-08:002013-01-12T20:52:02.713-08:00Still needing help!So the "browse" button is still not showing when I go to attach pictures on my post... I have looked at the help topics and nothing is working...so sad. <br />
<br />
On a happier note, here is a pretty silhouette for the day from my phone. It was 4 degrees when I left the house this morning...pretty unusual for us. <br />
<br />

I bought some sheer white fabric a while back on sale and with a coupon and now it's time to sew! Trying to be all ready if we get to move-in this weekend! <br />
<br />
On another note, I am still having trouble uploading pics off my computer onto blogger. It no long shows the browse for pictures button... anyone else had this problem? I am limited to posting with my phone right now...<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Thanks for joining me in 2012 and I hope some of my post are helpful for 2013 as well. One of my major projects this year will be going room by room and detailing all of our home building choices and tips. If you are doing any remodeling or home building, you may want to stop in! I will also be posting about decorating a new home as well as creating effective organization of spaces like closets, a mud room, and my craft room!</span><br />

I usually don't wait as long in between posts and it has been a while since I have shared house updates, so that's what I thought I'd do today!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-CjQxvtYtK4mFBXjva3OIrf8t4Z3any-4m7pGxb8ooApzd91UB35JPFHjeYr-FtT9Xwkw0ps0Gb3GM-uVTDXOQ4Da468NFVKd8hFUQ_hNz7u15ot21-reLeYoPAELESnV_Jq3OpscrTqJ/s1600/house+update.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-CjQxvtYtK4mFBXjva3OIrf8t4Z3any-4m7pGxb8ooApzd91UB35JPFHjeYr-FtT9Xwkw0ps0Gb3GM-uVTDXOQ4Da468NFVKd8hFUQ_hNz7u15ot21-reLeYoPAELESnV_Jq3OpscrTqJ/s320/house+update.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If you don't know the history of our story, right now my husband and I are having a house built. I have done pretty much all of the interior and most of the exterior choices and man has it been a job. It's scary to pick things out because you know you will be living with them for a VERY long time and you don't have anything to match it up to...very different than living in a house and doing sporadic updates!! <br />
<br />
We were supposed to be moved in 4 months from the start date...haha, well that date came and went (September 15th) and we are still waiting. Our new (5th...) date (no joke) is January 11th and things are really looking close! Once we are moved in I will do a room by room tour with links and/or descriptions of my choices. That way if you love anything, you can look into it easily. <br />
<br />
I really tried to go with a fresh and traditional look. I have 3 of the school house lights (top right) and since our ceilings are a bit higher than average, I was able to use a semi-flush light which hangs down a tad. I am in LOVE with our fridge, which my husband is the expert wheeler and dealer...I was settling with a WHOLE TON LESS until he stepped in. It's our joke that apparently I don't have the charm that he does. Bottom right is the granite counter top in our kitchen with subway tile back splash. I was nervous about this combination, but there is grey in the granite that I wanted to pull out and I think it did the trick!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is part of our Great Room and they are currently working on painting trim and finishing the fire place. The fireplace has a grey-ish brick and sits flush on the floor (more traditional) and will have a white wood surround hearth with the very top pieced stained to match our wood doors in the house. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
Here is the rest of the Great Room and Dining Room. They finally uncovered our windows so you can see a little snow out there. Our couches were delivered, but we have left them safely wrapped in plastic. Can't wait to break them out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0t7SYxTiuxxnByB-mB248dprvc6v-QMh_8CTptub3Wb0KSG6ByORfBjRyof1IrtTQg-3H8z6Q2hcvaA02hv8s_opdaGq5v09du3KJfqclt7rXEy3iaUUTkD3UP1WoiLyxR_lNsbtMrMn5/s1600/Kitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0t7SYxTiuxxnByB-mB248dprvc6v-QMh_8CTptub3Wb0KSG6ByORfBjRyof1IrtTQg-3H8z6Q2hcvaA02hv8s_opdaGq5v09du3KJfqclt7rXEy3iaUUTkD3UP1WoiLyxR_lNsbtMrMn5/s320/Kitchen.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Directly across from the last picture is the kitchen. They will be putting a trim piece on the cabinets to hide the under cabinet lights better. I just LOVE my view from the large kitchen window...I can see my horses! We have never lived in the same location as them since we've been horse owners. A dream come true!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here's the master bath. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi69PKmXEOvxYByKzRlsNLm2xWxoJvyObtqKSp5jmBcQJV2cwkHQCQUu6UDfyZFcJzxeTgdItYFlstECX-mcvxxrj2bnPMCtO-6Vm-ULWJLgnOmrllPp9hWwZBpyM6OE_i3Uk6U33srAmEx/s1600/master+shower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi69PKmXEOvxYByKzRlsNLm2xWxoJvyObtqKSp5jmBcQJV2cwkHQCQUu6UDfyZFcJzxeTgdItYFlstECX-mcvxxrj2bnPMCtO-6Vm-ULWJLgnOmrllPp9hWwZBpyM6OE_i3Uk6U33srAmEx/s320/master+shower.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
We are really happy with how the master shower turned out. The glass is beautiful, the hardware just needs to be switched to brushed nickle. Oh the details.... :)<br />
<br />
The rest of this week we should be having the carpet installed in the master and upstairs. The stair railing may be started?? and the hearth is being worked on.<br />
<br />
Building a house takes so much patience, commuincation, and hard work! We are looking forward to having all of our things out of storage soon! I have so much compassion for all those who have been misplaced for any period of time!! <br /><br />Happy New Year. <br />

It has definitely been hard work planning and coordinating for me, but the projects were all very doable! If you still need more ideas, visit my </span><a href="http://pinterest.com/bsteiert/holiday-crafts/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Holiday Crafts</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> board on Pinterest. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today's project may be my favorite. I started with a World Market napkin that has a fun edge around it. They are only $3.99 and make a perfect table centerpiece. They also had a couple different colors. I found a red and white fabric, went online and found a manger scene silhouette, printed and cut it out, then traced it on my fabric and cut it out. Once I was done, I adhered it to my "napkin." If you want to do this project and you feel like you will be washing it a lot, I would recommend sewing around the edges or doing a large stitch with embroidery floss for extra reinforcement.</span> <br />

Sorry I'm a bit late today with my post, stinkin technical difficulties! Thanks for your patience...it's put me a bit behind so tomorrows will probably be late too! On with the DIY bunting!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghWGfdHGUY4r6WWmMzTjsIa67ZRNcKKahRoVf-HPcR6jAuTxo_cBflEqvPCKsWLxsCpzv51p_ytMq1e1dH-TZEmUXgtK0SHmFobyQaBhmhOi-k8NJIOcVhEEct5g2icW1VR0ic_p0Jhh1C/s1600/blogger-image-907032832.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghWGfdHGUY4r6WWmMzTjsIa67ZRNcKKahRoVf-HPcR6jAuTxo_cBflEqvPCKsWLxsCpzv51p_ytMq1e1dH-TZEmUXgtK0SHmFobyQaBhmhOi-k8NJIOcVhEEct5g2icW1VR0ic_p0Jhh1C/s320/blogger-image-907032832.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This was actually my first bunting ever! Even before the Noel one I did earlier in the series! It was also my first Christmas project this year. I'm hoping to take a cute Christmas picture with Jeff and I holding it, but I wanted snow in the background and it hasn't snowed enough since well before Thanksgiving. We might just have to take a drive!</span> <br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So this was a pretty simple project, and it only took time because there are so many letters in what I wanted to spell. I purchased a cardboard stencil set from Walmart for under $4, black paint, a sponge brush, red embroidery thread, and rope from the hardware store. I used the back of one of the coffee burlap bags I get from our feed store for the triangles. I also used left over fluffy white yarn from a scarf I made.</span> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrYMDpghs0d-OGOMsEe3nQi5qbF55THxdWV6CeK8hc16aFW0PDFhnQCvTksw3p6SeWKB1Fto5teyx-Wtp6f3bje2ncVBt3kE6BNEIVrgLReZ3UklpUQxWqGOfPStPTrcQcOcm8bBKO3fh6/s1600/MC+bunting+Y.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrYMDpghs0d-OGOMsEe3nQi5qbF55THxdWV6CeK8hc16aFW0PDFhnQCvTksw3p6SeWKB1Fto5teyx-Wtp6f3bje2ncVBt3kE6BNEIVrgLReZ3UklpUQxWqGOfPStPTrcQcOcm8bBKO3fh6/s320/MC+bunting+Y.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Be careful when you are painting on your letters to make sure you have something underneath your burlap. Once all my individual letters dried on the burlap, I used a tapestry needle and red embroidery thread and did a large stitch around the edges.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq5O5lTb6g8EDBPYpZaW9Gf0iTu_dsDglKalytI64gGmJ89majFA33Czj97y8J9RiPsEoXT51J3U_q53jaa361oWnl5p_Q32M7HP7y6Ba5Cb73vqCPQ6HnYxlzjZDa2qki0ltzo5XJB3Tx/s1600/MC+bunting+thread.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq5O5lTb6g8EDBPYpZaW9Gf0iTu_dsDglKalytI64gGmJ89majFA33Czj97y8J9RiPsEoXT51J3U_q53jaa361oWnl5p_Q32M7HP7y6Ba5Cb73vqCPQ6HnYxlzjZDa2qki0ltzo5XJB3Tx/s320/MC+bunting+thread.jpg" width="312" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now this next step was a bit challenging...I didn't know exactly how I wanted to attach the bunting to hang it. I knew I wanted a thick rope, but it wasn't coming together like I wanted in my head. That's why I haven't posted it yet...so when I finished a scarf and had some leftover white yarn, I thought it would look super cute wrapped around the rope. Almost a little Santaish, even though I'm not a big Santa fan. Maybe more snow-like. :)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWkC_bFIyFD7PQnnt5j2f81ttAI0fE5654SH83kJDs71xd8mr9zOKlZv_mK_775KYCtwHqnAxCIA5pZprY4o95OasZOm7ncX4gQrdW9mMdOeTm_Qf1pgwHSsWUzGmyYi3NQmNC1Khg7LD/s1600/MC+bunting+rope.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWkC_bFIyFD7PQnnt5j2f81ttAI0fE5654SH83kJDs71xd8mr9zOKlZv_mK_775KYCtwHqnAxCIA5pZprY4o95OasZOm7ncX4gQrdW9mMdOeTm_Qf1pgwHSsWUzGmyYi3NQmNC1Khg7LD/s320/MC+bunting+rope.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I attached the burlap to the rope with, none other than Tacky Glue and made sure it had plenty of time to dry (overnight) before hanging. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

Thanks for stopping over! Hope you are enjoying the first day of December! Even though I've been doing lots of Christmas Projects for the blog series, it still seems crazy that it's Christmas time. Not sure why, maybe just because we are in such limbo land right now. I told Jeff maybe we should have planned a vacation over Christmas this year since it's going to feel so weird not enjoying the holiday prep in our own home with our things. (little late for that idea)<br />
<br />

Today is one of my favorite little projects. It has been slightly more time consuming, partly because I didn't have all the supplies I KNEW would make it quicker, but I saw these trees on<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/254734922644822275/" target="_blank"> Pinterest</a> and had to make them!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggno7OiLBlL-lms9sT6cheSCZ46YYZCAPE9ETCEHnI9syTL48v1kRFQre_w2s115cd28bQP-2k5Uw-2vXDXEwuzCIjC6dSKCrRfn9Qt2qltn7MpriObzNHEUoawlsMSuuBOJIGbsRJqIfl/s1600/Bell+tree+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggno7OiLBlL-lms9sT6cheSCZ46YYZCAPE9ETCEHnI9syTL48v1kRFQre_w2s115cd28bQP-2k5Uw-2vXDXEwuzCIjC6dSKCrRfn9Qt2qltn7MpriObzNHEUoawlsMSuuBOJIGbsRJqIfl/s320/Bell+tree+2.jpg" width="240" /></a>Mine is slightly different...not sure if better... but I like how they turned out. The reason that they are showing up so late in the game is that...I used tacky glue... My beloved hot glue gun is buried in storage and I REFUSE to buy 2 of EVERYTHING!! So it was tedious with tacky glue because it dries so slowly. DO NOT use tacky glue if you are sane. Otherwise, the project is simple. <br />
<br />
What you need is a cone (anything works), bells (a lot of minis), twine, and a hot glue gun. On my second tree (unfinished due to how LONG it is taking with tacky glue) I am sprinkling a few red bells here and there and I think it's turning out cute!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are the perfect little trees for me...a touch of rustic with the twine (I found a thinner off-white twine) and a little dressy with the pretty silver bells. Precious!</div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thanks for joining me today! I hope you have been able to enjoy some of the other projects I have featured the past 6 days. We only have 3 days left (excluding a day of rest on Sunday). Today's project is a Christmas centerpiece. My mom purchased this "box" for the table at a show and it had the greenery, pine cones, white candles and some red berries with it. It also came with the ribbon and believe tag. She originally bought it to dismantle and use for our Thanksgiving table.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmo15bLQeXlNHm_NBB5PcAN85LJgH6twxgYPl8YGaMvz9Kowpqc2VGJPdu3BGhUCovZw9p3qmUoT4yqlnsxcx_bBlKDU-2ftYY98udThmac-u-pT2xVyWrCaA5Bf8AOs_MdN2hXeXuYeOb/s1600/tc+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmo15bLQeXlNHm_NBB5PcAN85LJgH6twxgYPl8YGaMvz9Kowpqc2VGJPdu3BGhUCovZw9p3qmUoT4yqlnsxcx_bBlKDU-2ftYY98udThmac-u-pT2xVyWrCaA5Bf8AOs_MdN2hXeXuYeOb/s320/tc+2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We took the berries out, the ribbon and tag off, to transform it. I think it turned out great for Thanksgiving! So the reason I wanted to feature this, is to give you some money saving ideas. You don't need to go to all the work of creating something for fall and pack it away. Look around and see if you can transform it for winter! Mom took the gourds, pumpkins, and raffia out, then she put the wood stars, a few red berries, and the ribbon on. The large star is a new tree topper, but since I won't be able to have a tree this year, she nestled it into the centerpiece. I loved how the willowy dark reddish orange fern looking twigs look great for both seasons!</span><br />

I hope you have been able to look at some of my other 5 posts for holiday project ideas. My goal has been to provide simple, low cost, limited supply projects!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8SLjQO788xqAkbmTqnUzdqenn72EUTzseDthebsCbpqTu89bKjW1QEhYU2Ss3paqedNWfOvR1Pc_XYN-IW4uZTZ8NGTkR1k3tp6RISngGIERAu1ayCqOJQE3PCZE6-Y2KdVOZg0EeAkp6/s1600/wire+orn..png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8SLjQO788xqAkbmTqnUzdqenn72EUTzseDthebsCbpqTu89bKjW1QEhYU2Ss3paqedNWfOvR1Pc_XYN-IW4uZTZ8NGTkR1k3tp6RISngGIERAu1ayCqOJQE3PCZE6-Y2KdVOZg0EeAkp6/s320/wire+orn..png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
On my <a href="http://pinterest.com/bsteiert/holiday-crafts/" target="_blank">holiday crafts</a> pinterest board, I have these super cute wire names/ornaments. They are from <a href="http://www.craftsunleashed.com/index.php/seasonal/christmas/wire-craft-ornaments/" target="_blank">Crafts Unleashed</a> and I wanted to try them out and hopefully use them on packages this year. That way once family opens their gift, they can save the "name tag" as an ornament. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLbdJrMZADa58_KBGNH0kDzVTFZCJGBTwPGqWIb7qLCeEUZhJ3kq0AbRh3QwYwAeDGw7eXG094CbInQFGPudTq_LfNipr40tNxlnHahy8bx36PxFLWj4Awpq1sX1oetbUDG2cV2w0gmmDG/s1600/orn+pack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLbdJrMZADa58_KBGNH0kDzVTFZCJGBTwPGqWIb7qLCeEUZhJ3kq0AbRh3QwYwAeDGw7eXG094CbInQFGPudTq_LfNipr40tNxlnHahy8bx36PxFLWj4Awpq1sX1oetbUDG2cV2w0gmmDG/s400/orn+pack.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I couldn't find any super cute red and white baker's twine, so I used a light grey and white yarn that has a similar look. So how did I do it? Here are the supplies I used:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf1jQvYgLBbWF0i8MqvlbzYwJ1NHMwuHpJVd-UyN0eBLZciD_xWdra5iMMCS6-sjsanhsaFIXzX2GyCvsf30CfykOEPLscVmTs6UR_mQt6XG-4eSy8xIYaGQGt4BwCAD1bQ5IEvv4bzYuW/s1600/orn+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf1jQvYgLBbWF0i8MqvlbzYwJ1NHMwuHpJVd-UyN0eBLZciD_xWdra5iMMCS6-sjsanhsaFIXzX2GyCvsf30CfykOEPLscVmTs6UR_mQt6XG-4eSy8xIYaGQGt4BwCAD1bQ5IEvv4bzYuW/s320/orn+supplies.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Yarn<br />
Wire cutters/pliers<br />
Wire 15.2m (other blogger used thicker)<br />
Super glue<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQZcz2Lx2TNgxtfcxO6BjtKzqfAqTGT4Rjstej91tnIzsqWTPjqRDZmsQl8nzwtnBqTY5vknBB1VtEB5g1GmmRXdsuGd0RcN9WE8tWutDoGA3-bUJXHpH8eMkpck8-_IoXZUVoPu9VRZQR/s1600/orn+jeff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQZcz2Lx2TNgxtfcxO6BjtKzqfAqTGT4Rjstej91tnIzsqWTPjqRDZmsQl8nzwtnBqTY5vknBB1VtEB5g1GmmRXdsuGd0RcN9WE8tWutDoGA3-bUJXHpH8eMkpck8-_IoXZUVoPu9VRZQR/s320/orn+jeff.jpg" width="320" /></a>I started by finding a font I liked and printing the names I wanted to make. Then I took my wire and tried to mold the names similar to the form on my paper. This was fairly helpful to me. This was the most intimidating part of the project for me.<br />
<br />
Once the names were formed, I began wrapping. As a did a couple, I learned it was helpful if I started by doing a slip knot and then wrapping so that I wrapped over the tail, then there was no loose end that could unravel. Then, at the end, I tied a couple knots and used the superglue to dab the end and make sure the yarn would stay put. I think they are turning out super cute. I still have more to do, but hopefully they will be a very special and cute memento. My gifts are going to be fun all wrapped this year! :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHGvXrqImedHptAvYOGBViBiTNoZlrRNSsF8_L0bul5nxVSQ7ezHJy8pPjkkfp2j-CczUXTMbO5Ha8nibmqZK56cYtPWDvemKmNTMO1-lgoAwU-sufo_CXeKzlaUjF2tmbmn1sROHhEV4A/s1600/orn+sam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHGvXrqImedHptAvYOGBViBiTNoZlrRNSsF8_L0bul5nxVSQ7ezHJy8pPjkkfp2j-CczUXTMbO5Ha8nibmqZK56cYtPWDvemKmNTMO1-lgoAwU-sufo_CXeKzlaUjF2tmbmn1sROHhEV4A/s320/orn+sam.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I was even thinking I might do one that looks like a monogram for Jeff and I and hang it in the middle of an empty frame.<br />
<br />
Hope you enjoyed the project of the day!<br /><br />Sweet & (fairly) Simple.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFHDuUmJWlFEBIfxySGakIzpuLvV01AWAMK06az7_ekCwBJbk7NwvsXBtY4MImDF9RioAb3t1dgYkC15kFBzV8aTFue6G1RGMDaLHayFoYqN7Hjc_gn99wZ8l5hC4z13PBV-hNJF9pqwce/s1600/Wood+Tree+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFHDuUmJWlFEBIfxySGakIzpuLvV01AWAMK06az7_ekCwBJbk7NwvsXBtY4MImDF9RioAb3t1dgYkC15kFBzV8aTFue6G1RGMDaLHayFoYqN7Hjc_gn99wZ8l5hC4z13PBV-hNJF9pqwce/s320/Wood+Tree+3.jpg" width="240" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First, I found an old piece of wood (slightly greyed) from the construction leftovers on our house. Then I cut three triangles of red burlap, each slightly smaller than the first, and glued them to the block.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I decided to glue the triangles on leaning to one side. Then I used scalloped scissors to cut three more triangles from an old dictionary. Last, I attached the pages with silver tacs.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Seriously, that was it! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Definitely Simple & Sweet! Hope to see you tomorrow!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today I will be showing you how I created this easy bunting for my friend's nursery. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started with a burlap coffee bag that I bought from our local feed store for $1.50. I carefully cut out the letters so as to create as little fraying as possible. I chose all black letters and one green letter to bring in a little holiday color. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmuhkUTf1yl_6n9aR6CF5uojiLTee8SwZ5lxeCe783lgnyxd8msfChQNxXtb84NSqeHxeMVbBcv5VY-DwG7VvoZxfAspXGPZHqQsyVBDLV_o60Hdv-yrd9iNH-dcKiAD8imdOxSLHd6Rfn/s1600/Burlap+bunting+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmuhkUTf1yl_6n9aR6CF5uojiLTee8SwZ5lxeCe783lgnyxd8msfChQNxXtb84NSqeHxeMVbBcv5VY-DwG7VvoZxfAspXGPZHqQsyVBDLV_o60Hdv-yrd9iNH-dcKiAD8imdOxSLHd6Rfn/s320/Burlap+bunting+collage.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I cut triangles out of white burlap and glued each letter to it's own triangle. Burlap can be ironed, so if it has major creases, flatten it out before you try to cut. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Then I used some grey and white twisted yarn, similar to bakers twine, and stuck the yarn through the top of each triangle. To reinforce the string and burlap, I did use tacky glue along the top of the triangle where the string shows, in hopes that the burlap won't fray as easily and the string won't pull through.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFPaZP9tpIoCAm712VOQHoj3lUUJUvTtrRty6WulUv4gV6i5UR8YFgYGwXhP8IrKqNVlq3fiMU_FRx-I_xc2II_MPIq0JzllU_tkqxdUQrnIxbFpznJXPPyhMCcBrw4IbTfGiw91cZiJTq/s1600/Burlap+letters+string.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFPaZP9tpIoCAm712VOQHoj3lUUJUvTtrRty6WulUv4gV6i5UR8YFgYGwXhP8IrKqNVlq3fiMU_FRx-I_xc2II_MPIq0JzllU_tkqxdUQrnIxbFpznJXPPyhMCcBrw4IbTfGiw91cZiJTq/s320/Burlap+letters+string.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last but not least, I attached them to my driftwood stick and stuck the green E slightly higher than the rest. Easily done in a couple hours!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We are on day 3 of 10 for Christmas projects!<br />
<br />
If you have missed any of my previous projects, we have done <a href="http://rusticsilk.blogspot.com/2012/11/day-2-of-10.html" target="_blank">Driftwood Tree on Canvas</a> and <a href="http://rusticsilk.blogspot.com/2012/11/day-1-of-10.html" target="_blank">Rustic Yarn Trees</a>. Today I am showing you my version of a Paper Tree made from...whatever paper you want!! I originally found this idea on Pinterest (of course), so please visit my board <a href="http://pinterest.com/bsteiert/holiday-crafts/" target="_blank">Holiday Crafts</a> and check it out.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFD6b_cG_QkqzMy_kRbnguNg5oTCx4ckCeQ01i8Y10o0BLEl2NCRu-90L6StR2R22ejg3xWnuWu9xy0tyF5AE30YJhwjlF0Pl3z748HYdObkD-XgD2hyaD_JPPyJd8eNtpaxVYAN3CwNyy/s1600/Paper+Tree+final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFD6b_cG_QkqzMy_kRbnguNg5oTCx4ckCeQ01i8Y10o0BLEl2NCRu-90L6StR2R22ejg3xWnuWu9xy0tyF5AE30YJhwjlF0Pl3z748HYdObkD-XgD2hyaD_JPPyJd8eNtpaxVYAN3CwNyy/s320/Paper+Tree+final.jpg" width="244" /></a><br />
<br />
There are many ways you can do this project, but I chose the least expensive way and used mostly supplies I already had. The only things I purchased was the glass base ($1.99 at Goodwill) and the wire center with a clear bead at the top. I found a pack of 5 at Walmart. They are for floral arrangements.<br />
<br />
I saved a bunch of the holiday catalogs and cut my squares for the tree from pages that had the colors that I wanted in my tree (whites, greys, reds, greens, and golds). I cut 10 pieces for each size square. The largest (bottom of the tree) square started at 4" and I went down 1/4" for each size, the smallest square being 1 1/4". I also cut small squares of cardboard to separate layers of paper on the tree. If you want a more shelfy tree, you can do a piece of card board for each piece of paper. I did 4 pieces of paper and a piece of cardboard. That is pretty much it! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFhmbYf2lNMfbZ_Dw6YJ9YPvBBa5T0HpHKX43wQi3BZVDxEvKoKS3Ilgfq0L1Zfc2HP3ZgK-JsUrUFnFPUTxFHJx19s_c9lzdcv3MMRWVZD7XTMMPi0tDCuyJ_Le7ieW9jGV-upURmb08J/s1600/Paper+Tree+start.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFhmbYf2lNMfbZ_Dw6YJ9YPvBBa5T0HpHKX43wQi3BZVDxEvKoKS3Ilgfq0L1Zfc2HP3ZgK-JsUrUFnFPUTxFHJx19s_c9lzdcv3MMRWVZD7XTMMPi0tDCuyJ_Le7ieW9jGV-upURmb08J/s320/Paper+Tree+start.jpg" width="240" /></a>My mom decided it would be fun to do these as a craft with the girls in the family after Thanksgiving. They decided they wanted to use old book pages like Pinterest showed. They used wood skewers instead of the wire that I chose, and some of them spaced their paper out more. My mom brought some old candle stick holders she had at home and we stuffed the hole with some green floral foam, used a little glue and stuck the skewer in. Here are the pictures from how theirs turned out. It was a very simple project for all ability levels.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Ni2_rdWGlbMRVk9ZQYAl__JjC6dkfzdTipiTDGYmEDRRr15c6iZLhQAih4A9ZNwulpVik6vBznDbjuZQaodmuKBvrCmmStr15QtWaCj3eKYtNNFCr-7h3N9u0wqiGlZ_oQV2ftRcVDSo/s1600/Tree+craft.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Ni2_rdWGlbMRVk9ZQYAl__JjC6dkfzdTipiTDGYmEDRRr15c6iZLhQAih4A9ZNwulpVik6vBznDbjuZQaodmuKBvrCmmStr15QtWaCj3eKYtNNFCr-7h3N9u0wqiGlZ_oQV2ftRcVDSo/s320/Tree+craft.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

Thanks for joining my blogging series. If you missed yesterday's, we did Yarn Trees that are simple and inexpensive. They would be a great craft to do with kids or use for decorating anywhere and not have to worry about them breaking!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have always loved the coast, whether the Oregon Coast or the beach in California, or even the East Coast (I finally got to visit summer before last), it's such a wonderful place. I also love coastal decorating. Now that we live more in the mountains/country, I promise I don't beach my house out...but I like to bring a few things in whenever possible to add a little coastal charm. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9InUNKM2x9EVWTfsOMEKgnsX1d3xfFfl73ge13lzFv817Aj2CCJGu5TAEMvapXqOCY1Ruuuv1GxcCI-wXQ_opo-7NZBWJcxJKQqkwOOMj2koBld_Jc5yHzcETdVSGUA1BiESKHn8zi7nL/s1600/Driftwood+final+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9InUNKM2x9EVWTfsOMEKgnsX1d3xfFfl73ge13lzFv817Aj2CCJGu5TAEMvapXqOCY1Ruuuv1GxcCI-wXQ_opo-7NZBWJcxJKQqkwOOMj2koBld_Jc5yHzcETdVSGUA1BiESKHn8zi7nL/s320/Driftwood+final+1.jpg" width="240" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My guest bathroom is faintly coastal, so when I saw a driftwood tree on Pintrest, I had to create one of my own! If you'd like to see the original, visit my </span><a href="http://pinterest.com/bsteiert/holiday-crafts/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Holiday Crafts</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> board.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once again, I picked a project that is really pretty simple. You can pick up a canvas very inexpensively at your local craft store. I used some leftover red burlap and on my last trip to the coast, I picked up small pieces of driftwood.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Assembly was very simple. I cut the burlap to the size I wanted. If you don't know the trick to cutting burlap so that it doesn't continue fraying, I will share it with you! First cut a small snip in the burlap and pull one strand out as far as you would cut. Coming from the other direction do the same until your strand meets the other one you pulled out. Cut along the gap where you pulled the string out. I wanted the ends of my burlap to be stringier, so I pulled a couple more string out along the edge to get the look I wanted.</span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGOeiVa4SBtLYKP06QGsAlVplQlWV_CL4b5-mDcQdRKbMQTrSXNA4s66o29QBacWAuadQFmTtavBWfmHaeFDY6Hs4Pp6jPgJGT7MX_dPQCkyGj3Ow4nqrjQWLKy53eWEBt2yyjEJblnV_Z/s1600/Driftwood+Tree+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGOeiVa4SBtLYKP06QGsAlVplQlWV_CL4b5-mDcQdRKbMQTrSXNA4s66o29QBacWAuadQFmTtavBWfmHaeFDY6Hs4Pp6jPgJGT7MX_dPQCkyGj3Ow4nqrjQWLKy53eWEBt2yyjEJblnV_Z/s320/Driftwood+Tree+1.jpg" width="240" /></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next, I layed out the driftwood how I wanted the tree to look. With a couple of the pieces I had to break them to the right size. Once I had my sticks laid out, I started gluing them to the burlap/canvas. I did not glue the bulap down...I decided to leave it loose and that once I glued the sticks down, it would stay just fine. If you want a flatter look, you could definitely attach the burlap. I would suggest a spray adhesive. If you attach it how I did, just hold the sticks down for a few seconds before moving on. Once all sticks are glued, let it sit for a good 20mins. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last is choosing a topper. I found these little sparkly snow flakes (originally ornaments) at Walmart in a pack of 6. There were different colors in the pack, but I chose the white one for my tree and glued it on. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I decided to put it on our dresser in our bedroom and am thrilled with how cute it is! </span><br />

I hope your Thanksgiving was all you could have hoped for! Hopefully you stopped by and shared with us one thing you or your family is thankful for this year!<br />
<br />
So <strong>10 Days of Christmas Projects</strong> begins! Today I am going to share with you a project I tried out at the end of last Christmas (before I was blogging) and really love how they turned out. If you like to knit or crochet, you probably have lots of odds and ends left of yarn. This is the perfect project to use up those scraps. I like to add touches of rustic into our decorations, but nothing over the top. I chose different colors and textures and since we decorate mostly in red, I stuck with neutrals and RED! :)<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu-DjZHTZob80VBe1wDRv6lesmYEY2qV1CLTLA1d6_Nkx8eZtq_qRW6Fr-1HiY4jruzj1B-LKuqoMZFPc3Pf79ihXCGDIT1wJjNmKvfZpVP1qfaAzMUqtBPsGqBS-_pUTyjL5CDp19yTwd/s1600/Yarn+Tree.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgu-DjZHTZob80VBe1wDRv6lesmYEY2qV1CLTLA1d6_Nkx8eZtq_qRW6Fr-1HiY4jruzj1B-LKuqoMZFPc3Pf79ihXCGDIT1wJjNmKvfZpVP1qfaAzMUqtBPsGqBS-_pUTyjL5CDp19yTwd/s320/Yarn+Tree.JPG" width="209" /></a><br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
These are very simple and inexpensive trees to make. You can find the foam tree forms at any craft store. The only other material you need is tacky glue. I coated the first 1/3 of the tree with quite a bit of glue and began wrapping. To switch off colors, just be sure and match up the yarns end to end and hold it there while you continue wrapping so it doesn't pull away. <br />
<br />
Once you get to the top, you can either add a topper of your choice, or coil the yarn around to completely finish off and cover the top foam. That's it! Fun, and you can make your tree look perfect to match your home or a friend's! <br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

It's hard to be patient (and kind sometimes). One of the things I am saddest about is that I probably won't be able to do any Christmas decorating this year...super sad.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But I do love how my choices are all coming together!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The exterior paint still isn't finished all the way. I am hoping to get a thicker trim for the front door and then they will be constructing our front pillars. That will all be white along with the shake in the entry. Our garage door will have the carriage door hardware on it eventually as well. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We were really excited when they were able to lay our garage floor. We were getting worried because we had had a week of below freezing weather.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Jeff had some fun a couple weeks ago when it was around 70 degrees...such nice weather and he was trying to get our water and power lines dug to reach the barn. We were pretty worried because of our lush fertile ground (sarcasm), here's a soil sample:</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrJrIzQxk6hd9Y3yWnrAFKOQuayJnWjxt0Z_SZBgkUzc0cDhyevjPza894KzCxKQcRwvU-THinYbSzOnYzdxM-Ga-wVUGWT4X5ma3765ZJPE-NhkugJvOTwg6J-bFB_UYpmeSzMds_Q44v/s1600/pillow+collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrJrIzQxk6hd9Y3yWnrAFKOQuayJnWjxt0Z_SZBgkUzc0cDhyevjPza894KzCxKQcRwvU-THinYbSzOnYzdxM-Ga-wVUGWT4X5ma3765ZJPE-NhkugJvOTwg6J-bFB_UYpmeSzMds_Q44v/s400/pillow+collage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I was so happy with how these pillows turned out. I am not a master seamstress, but overall, this turned out great. Most of that has to do with the fabric and how cute the designs are. So here are my tips and how-to on adding new, inexpensive pillows to your home.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiduhxfoDZfnXD6sEKNiJzLLI9duDYXb5AXw6VcR2UsPhZuAnDsXWKvzHQEV2crekEZY5_-8jGJL0cj-lTyz2UDFyKZBHSVJdDDhcdpOfGS9cicWHCXRl9PH7uLV5E3ZlP5Mfjyogrc7FGq/s1600/Pillows+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiduhxfoDZfnXD6sEKNiJzLLI9duDYXb5AXw6VcR2UsPhZuAnDsXWKvzHQEV2crekEZY5_-8jGJL0cj-lTyz2UDFyKZBHSVJdDDhcdpOfGS9cicWHCXRl9PH7uLV5E3ZlP5Mfjyogrc7FGq/s320/Pillows+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong>1.</strong> Either use old pillow forms or pick some up from your favorite store. I went to JoAnne's when they were having 50% off their pillow forms. <br />
<strong>2.</strong> Pick the fabrics you like. The beige designs I found at World Market and they were actually a cotton napkin set. This was actually a super economical way to do pillows and I used a muslin for the back. Make sure to prewash all your fabric so you can wash them down the road without shrinking!<br />
<strong>3.</strong> Decide the measurements of your pillows. If you have purchased the forms new, the packaging will tell you. Mine were 16"x16", 18"x18", 20"x20". With this in mind, I created my patterns. For my pattern, I chose to build the front 3/4" smaller than the actual pillow so that the fit is tight. For the back, I created two separate pieces that overlapped to create an envelope close. My measurements for the back pieces were:<br />
16x16 - 15 1/4 x 7 & 15 1/4 x 11 (and then adjusted acordingly for the larger sizes)<br />
Sew one of the back pieces to the top of the front (right sides together) and the other back piece to the bottom of the top piece. Still right sides together, sew the edge seams of the pillow (the back pieces should overlap). Your pillow should be complete, just flip it right sides out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjblbxCJ1sj8-izqZJgvPblIRdDBwcs3Fz7cfxZVxRNzxWyWDb3L5MK7b9T6fO_onCshiISVDs8VRYDCrbyAN-zNe8-ugRhLbJk_eqE5vGYhW40ls6FXV47hcVV72y-e0scCQ462Oy9kGGz/s1600/Pillows+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjblbxCJ1sj8-izqZJgvPblIRdDBwcs3Fz7cfxZVxRNzxWyWDb3L5MK7b9T6fO_onCshiISVDs8VRYDCrbyAN-zNe8-ugRhLbJk_eqE5vGYhW40ls6FXV47hcVV72y-e0scCQ462Oy9kGGz/s320/Pillows+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Be creative! I found this slate colored fabric in the JoAnne's remnant bin and it was an extra 50% off. You can use scraps of fabric you have to piece together the front. Make sure when you finish the top piece, it still measures 3/4" smaller than the actual pillow measurement. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN1RUsFgSPhG2HVUvgmHBL8hMk-9SV9hf0Yt9Ub68KCk4ktvYTxkPGYwMA-NUSj36yClwuBVrLQ1y56cQp0gILxL4TuMNnV1JpVmWKZEbPSuGHmUfxQGP6steqRqq-N765KXxzreGZZB9m/s1600/Pillows+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN1RUsFgSPhG2HVUvgmHBL8hMk-9SV9hf0Yt9Ub68KCk4ktvYTxkPGYwMA-NUSj36yClwuBVrLQ1y56cQp0gILxL4TuMNnV1JpVmWKZEbPSuGHmUfxQGP6steqRqq-N765KXxzreGZZB9m/s320/Pillows+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For this last pillow, I did the seams on the outside for a scrappier look. <br />
<br />
We plan to use these pillows in our upstairs loft. We have dormers and have purchased two of these benches and the pillows will fit just right in that space. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgthR4Bg7lDGLkl40NIxL3m7k-8apzAwcuZHcQo4x-9mu6UyDbVBLq32j5Cn-oPhIw3UVtH775ublByiZyv1Mvsa3P2CpHdIlkXh3jqp0yu3mGxBlqXGgrNeuNziRDJ1ZpBolBlCSI1sLXH/s1600/Fall+lantern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgthR4Bg7lDGLkl40NIxL3m7k-8apzAwcuZHcQo4x-9mu6UyDbVBLq32j5Cn-oPhIw3UVtH775ublByiZyv1Mvsa3P2CpHdIlkXh3jqp0yu3mGxBlqXGgrNeuNziRDJ1ZpBolBlCSI1sLXH/s320/Fall+lantern.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some of you may know, but my husband and I have been in temporary housing for the last 6 months with only some of our things and the rest are in storage. Before that, we rented for 3 years and I always struggled with doing any major decorating, because I didn't want to put holes in the walls or spend money on something that wouldn't work in our own home down the road. If you are like me, or you just needs some ideas for a tight budget, here are my thoughts:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>1.</strong> <strong>Look</strong> around and find a cute piece you can tie some fall sprigs to. In the picture above, I used a lantern and used raffia to tie sprigs onto the lantern. We also have lots of pine cones, so I added one of those. It's not a huge statement, but adds a little cuteness.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>2.</strong> Pick up a few <strong>miniature pumpkins</strong> and stage them. In this picture, I used a pot with sticks I already had, the mini pumpkin on a pretty candlewick pedestal. I also added a couple pine cones from the back yard.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKGVm6aFHo52Qo1GIPZ89oMJ3KlP23Pj06b5cXsYjtJRzKrAtMOzewNTx2roB2kZ56-tV3bktEgXUQFXY96pm2gq6vT6uST8Nu_jl8gC903tZUpBel_bl9sOLOjFx_zAm1yZjCusmsd1-C/s1600/Fall+Centerpiece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKGVm6aFHo52Qo1GIPZ89oMJ3KlP23Pj06b5cXsYjtJRzKrAtMOzewNTx2roB2kZ56-tV3bktEgXUQFXY96pm2gq6vT6uST8Nu_jl8gC903tZUpBel_bl9sOLOjFx_zAm1yZjCusmsd1-C/s320/Fall+Centerpiece.jpg" width="240" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I used three pumpkins and put them as a centerpiece for the dinning room table. I like to pick a variety of colors so they stand out</span>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>4.</strong> Do a<strong> craft. </strong>If you are like me, you have a lot of left over scraps from projects. If you are a burlap fan, you can add a simple burlap wreath to a nob or hook already in your house. Here is my DIY blog on these </span><a href="http://rusticsilk.blogspot.com/2012/11/simple-burlap-wreaths.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">wreaths</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">...they are super quick!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Don't be discouraged by it already being November. It's not too late to add a few touches for Thanksgiving. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
