House Design: Plumbing

House designing is so time consuming!  It has been fun, but after an entire day (morning to night) hunting the Internet, after I had already looked before in stores and online, I finally nailed down most of our plumbing fixtures.

It has been my dream to get a farmhouse/apron front sink for the kitchen.  There are LOTS of versions out there, but I kept mine simple and inexpensive, without getting too cheap.  I found this single bowl firestone sink on signaturehardware.com.  I also chose an American Standard pull-down sprayer faucet to go with it in stainless steel.  The faucet was a fairly economical one for the style and color on homedepot.com.

We are trying very hard to be budget savvy with building our new home, so instead of doing the "vessel sink" on top of the 1/2 bath counter, that would match the farmhouse sink, I am sticking with an inexpensive undermount round sink for all the bathroom sinks.  I found this Decolav sink for $40 at Home Depot.

The faucets we chose are super cute!  We are doing a pretty older farm look, with a lot of white and some rustic mixed in, so I thought these were perfect.  I found them on build.com and they are a Kingston brand...just picture it in polished nickle instead of the chrome pictured.  Isn't it cute?!

Next is my beloved freestanding tub.  I knew I wanted some sort of pedestal tub, and I found one for a pretty good deal on homedepot.com and it has a very cute design as well by MAAX!  I was told Cast Iron is sturdy but really doesn't keep the water warm, so I wasn't too worried about spending the extra for that material.  The faucet is by Elements of Design and I found it on wayfair.com.  Man the free standing tub faucets are expensive!  This was the best deal I could find for what I wanted, and then I found out I needed a floor mounted faucet...  So we are getting basically the same thing just with the extra pipes to the floor...

Ok, so that's all the exciting plumbing stuff (I didn't figure you needed to see my utility tub for the laundry room).  Are you getting the vibe for what we are aiming at with the design?  Next I am hoping to showcase our flooring...that might be a little harder to show good pictures of, but I will attempt.

Sweet and maybe not so simple...!

  2. The Internet has been a big help, especially for homeowners who are deciding on what would be their home’s furniture and appliances. It saves them time and effort that could be spent on some other important errands, right? :) Also, you might want to consider putting filters both in your faucets and drains to prevent blockages in your sewer system.

  3. A farmhouse apron front sink is a charming choice to start with because it creates a warm country ambiance in your kitchen. Also known as the Belfast or Butler sink in other countries, it lends the charm and simplicity of the farmhouse kitchens into the modern kitchen setting, which is quite attractive in its own way. I feel happy for you, knowing that you've made the best decision for your home! :)

  4. You are right! House designing is very time-consuming, and it requires a lot of effort. But at the end of the day, the fulfillment will be there, upon seeing the results of your hard work. But what's interesting is that the designing of plumbing-related stuff is the one which actually takes more time. Well, you definitely got my vote! Great choice, Beth! And how's your 160-lb sink? :)
