Octagon Piece

Hope your Monday has started out well!  Mondays have notoriously been a challenge for me, but I thought I'd start this week by revealing how my little octagon turned out.  By the way...does anyone have any idea what this piece is actually called?  I found it for $5 at Goodwill and just thought it had so much cute character.  Once again I'm not sure where I will use it in our new home, but at least it's prepped and ready!  What do you think?

Fortunately this piece was a GREAT deal because I really steer away from green.  It's just never been a color I like.  I was a little nervous how it would show through my paint as well and knew I wouldn't be able to get all the green off by sanding.  Thankfully, chalk paint adheres to most all surfaces so I wasn't worried about the chippy state it was in.  I just tried to sand off any loose paint.  Then I went to work.

I used Annie Sloan Pure White and Paris Grey.  In the picture above I painted the Paris Grey in the indented area. I wasn't too careful with keeping the paint in that area because it easily sands off as you can tell in the comparison picture above.  But this part of the project definitely took time!!

I took a picture of the beginning stage of sanding (above).  I used a fine sanding block.  When you sand chalk paint, if you are going to do a lot, it might be best to wear a mask because it is SUPER dusty.  That is part of the beauty of the chalk paint though, is that it sands off so nicely and really helps give pieces that vintage/naturally aged look.  The green didn't show through badly at all...it looked more grey and gave the piece a weathered look under the paint.  I LOVE IT!

This was a one day project, but definitely too more time than any of my other painting projects have recently.  I try and stick to quick projects so that I can see the results and not get frustrated!

Sweet & Simple.  Thanks for vising!
