Sign Revamp #2

My mom just bought a cabin in Central Oregon and I have had this metal sign that says "Cabin" for a long time, so I thought it would be appropriate to revamp it and donate it to the new cabin!  People are using wood to make signs and frames bigger these days, so that's exactly what I decided to do with this project.  I may even do this to a couple other tin signs I have.

I used a leftover fence board and cut it down.  Fence boards are generally pretty rough from my experience, so I took my little palm sander to it pretty vigorously.  I used a staple gun with small staples to keep the boards together because I am all about speedy and wood glue was going to take too long.  If you do this project and decide to do the staples also, just make sure you keep them hidden (on the back side and underneath the sign you apply to the top).

Next I spray painted the attached boards with an Ivory spray paint.  In the picture below, I had sprayed the boards two times and man do those fence boards soak in the paint.  I ended up applying two more coats.

Once the boards had dried, I used a "contact cement" glue that is effective on wood and metal, to attach my cabin sign to the boards.  The glue takes about 15mins to set, so I put something heavy on it and let it be.
